Experts agree that MENA will be one of the world’s regions hit hardest by climate change in the 21st century. In the Middle East, climate change and its impacts – water scarcity, vulnerability to extreme weather, strains on food systems, and more – are highly interlinked with economic growth (or decline), conflict, migration, employment, and human rights. The urgent “today game” is mitigation of these effects. This panel will focus on the future adaptation of water and agricultural systems as one critical dimension of this issue. What are the prospects for innovative, future-focused approaches to accelerate adaptation strategies and technologies? Who are the “green leaders” in this aspect of the region’s future?
