Jonathan Pershing is one of two Deputies to Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry. Previously he served as Special Envoy for Climate Change at the U.S. Department of State and was lead U.S. negotiator to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change under the Obama Administration. In previous government posts, he served as Deputy Special Envoy at the Department of State; Senior Climate Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Energy; Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy; Deputy Director of the Policy Office at the U.S. Department of Energy; and Science Advisor and Deputy Director of the Office of Global Change in the U.S. Department of State. Dr Pershing also served as the Director of the Environment Program at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, as Director of the Climate and Energy Program at the World Resources Institute, and as the Head of the Environment Program at the Paris-based International Energy Agency. He holds a Ph.D. in Geology and Geophysics, and has lectured and written extensively on climate and energy. He was also a lead author and editor for the Nobel Prize winning reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
