S. Adeel Abbas (Adeel) currently serves as the Regional Coordinator for climate change in the Sustainable Development department of the WB, MENA Region, leading the technical advice and guidance for WB programs in the region on climate change. In this capacity, he led a team of sector experts and country level WBG staff to shape the WB’s MNA Regional Climate Roadmap for 21-25. He previously worked with the WB’s Climate Change Department where he led a team of technical experts for mainstreaming of climate action in World Bank operations and provision of climate-related advisory services to clients and Bank teams, shaping over 80bn of WB’s climate related financing in 5 years.

Prior to joining WBG, Adeel worked for over 10 years in South Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin American region supporting multi-sector operations with USAID, UN and other civil society organizations supporting post-disaster, recovery and transition programs. Adeel is a Fulbright Scholar and completed MBA Global Leadership in Sustainability from George Washington University and earned a certificate in Sustainable Development from Harvard University.
